Facades on the Grand Place

Strolling through the streets of the historic center of Brussels, called “Sacred ilot”, transports you into several centuries back in time. This neighborhood protected saves a true architectural treasure; beautiful homes dating from the seventeenth century along winding streets flourishing of local foods and restaurants in tourist shops.

The heart of the city is the beautiful Grand Place, considered the most beautiful square in Europe, although the Belgians proudly claim that the entire world. This plaza, declared a World Heritage Site in 1998, was for centuries a market, around which were gathered from various corporate finest craftsmen who built homes for more varied styles, especially baroque and gothic, some of which now house museums.
The Manneken Pis Among the buildings that stand out most is the Hôtel de Ville or city council, but the entire package itself is admirable. The plaza was even more beautiful when covered with a folder of flowers representing different reasons every two years. Around the square there are bars and restaurants where you can taste local foods, a good Belgian beer or just a coffee.

A few meters from the Grand Plaza, along a busy street of shops that offer the rich Belgian chocolates and lace garments (the Belgian lace is one of the most appreciated of the world), lies on a pedestal in a corner, the graceful statue of a little boy urinating is the famous Manneken Pis. Although the stories surrounding this original statue is variety, the fact is that a visit is within the infaltable tour of the city.

Not far from the Grand Place are the Galeries Saint-Hubert, where they can buy books, music and clothing, among other things, but prices are prohibitive for tight budgets.

Atomium Among the notable buildings of the city are the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real de la Moneda, the palace of the opera in Brussels, the imposing building on the Stock Exchange, the gigantic Palace of Justice and a handful of churches and chapels, including mention of the Cathedral of San Miguel and Gudule, in the historic center, and the Basilica of Koekelberg, to the west.
East of downtown is the Parc du Cinquantenaire, much more than a park because it is home to several museums.
And speaking of museums, Brussels has the prestigious Royal Museums of Fine Arts, an original Museum of Musical Instruments in a beautiful art-nouveau building and the Belgian Center for Comic, which honors the great reputation of the Belgians in the mood graph, to name but a few.

To the north of the city, in Laeken, do not miss the Parc de Laeken and its prestigious hivernadero. Not far away stands the Atomium, structure of iron spheres representing an atom, which has become a true symbol of Brussels.
